In this program, students complete a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree at Ohio Wesleyan. If they meet eligibility requirements, they can complete the Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in 13 or 18 months.
Students who complete a bachelor's degree at Ohio Wesleyan before pursuing a BSN may have broader and more flexible opportunities in the job market.
OWU offers more than 70 majors, and many of these can be especially valuable by enhancing and expanding the skills students develop in a nursing program. These majors include: Communication, Exercise Science, Health & Human Kinetics, Nutrition, Psychology, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish, Women's & Gender Studies, Zoology, and more.
To be eligible for a guaranteed spot in the Second Degree Accelerated Program at MCCN, students must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at OWU, and achieve a minimum grade of "C" in all course work that transfers to MCCN.
The OWU courses listed below are prerequisites for entry into the Mt. Carmel SDAP. (Note: Those courses or course groupings marked with an asterisk(*) are recommended but not required to enter the MCCN SDAP. These courses will substitute for MCCN courses and will ease scheduling pressure during the 13- or 18-month SDAP program. Please contact the Pre-Health Advisor with questions.)

BIOL 125: Introduction to Microbiology or BIOL 280: Medical Microbiology

*NUTR 380: Advanced Human Nutrition and Metabolism
BIOL 325: Human Physiology
BIOL 329: Human Anatomy (Note: BIOL 329 is the preferred course to be paired with BIOL 325. However, BIOL 251: Human Anatomy and Physiology may be substituted with prior approval from the Pre-Health Advisor.)
Students intending to enter the Mount Carmel SDAP must apply through the MCCN Office of Admissions during the spring semester of their final year at OWU. This submission assures the student a place in the guaranteed group of OWU graduates attending MCCN. A deposit of $300 must accompany this application. When students subsequently enter the SDAP class, the deposit will be applied toward their tuition. If the student does not apply to the SDAP or does not qualify for admission, this deposit is nonrefundable.
Some students accepted to the SDAP program may wish to defer the start of the program until the next class. To do so, they must send a letter to the MCCN Office of Admissions requesting a deferment. This letter must clearly state the reason for this request and be sent within 10 business days of the student's acceptance. A letter of reference from an OWU faculty recommending that this deferment be granted must accompany the deferment request. Whether the deferment is granted is the decision of MCCN.
