Programming Contests

Computer Science students participate in several programming contests throughout the academic year. In each contest, teams of 3-4 students work together to solve a variety of programming problems within a specified time limit.

The "Programming Contest Season" currently includes four contests:

1. A contest held at Ohio Wesleyan in March.
2. The in the fall.
3. A contest at Muskingum University in the fall.
4. The in February.

Pi Mu Epsilon

Pi Mu Epsilon is an honor society whose purpose is the promotion and recognition of scholarly activity in mathematics by students at academic institutions that have been chartered as chapters of the society. Students at the sophomore level or above are eligible for admission. Ohio Wesleyan's chapter, known as Ohio Beta, was the 13th chapter to be chartered. It was founded in 1927. Each year, a committee of faculty members reviews the academic records and scholarly activity of eligible candidates. Membership in Pi Mu Epsilon is awarded to those students who demonstrate interest, ability, and future promise in mathematics.

Math Contests

Mathematics students participate in two main contests:

1. The Four College Contest rotates between Ohio Wesleyan, Denison, Kenyon, and Wittenberg.  Each college is represented by several three-person teams which travel to the host institution on a winter Saturday. Each team works together to solve a set of problems prepared by an outside examiner, who determines the winner of the contest.
2. The is an annual individual mathematics contest that OWU students compete in.

 Student-Faculty Research

OWU students and faculty collaborate on research in a variety of ways:

• The is an OWU-supported way for students to work one on one with a faculty member.
• Since 2007, Math/CS faculty also participate in the National Science Foundation sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates, which receives applications from students all around the country.
• Exceptional students are frequently invited to do Graduation with Honors, which is a year-long project working together with a faculty member.
